Antalya, 13-21 June 2015

Dear Friends,

We are very happy to announce the 12th edition of REFEREE.PL camp for basketball officials.

We have prepared a great surprise for you this year, the location of the camp is extraordinary! We are inviting you to the top class hotel located at the sea side in the beautiful Turkish city with basketball traditions – Antalya. Camp has never taken place in such a touristic location, but this is not all, we also propose new version of the camp!

REFEREE.PL 2015 camp will have two sessions, as we have a great level tournament that is lasting for two camps!

We plan to make two sessions so you can choose which date suits you better. There will be two registration lists. (The exact time schedule will be public on our website).

We have prepared the best set of instructors in the world to join us this year. Various group of instructors makes the camp interesting and useful, so for us this is top priority. We will present instructors one by one on our website.

This year’s edition of REFEREE.PL camp will take place in Antalya, TURKEY  — beautiful city located on Antalya’s flourishing southwest coast bordered by the Taurus Mountains, Antalya is the largest Turkish city on the Mediterranean coast with over one million people in its metropolitan area.

As every year we will do our best to bring you something new and interesting, what will provide referees with special motivation and give a chance to improve skills on the court – this is going to be the ideal chance to learn new things from the most experience people in the referee’s world!

Campers will have lectures and also practical trainings on and off the court. During the lectures we will focus mainly on the quality of the calls, criteria and officiating techniques. We will also talk over 3 man mechanics and give a chance to listen to advises from experienced referees and instructors from the best leagues in the world. All the games will be recorded and there will be a chance to work with the video material immediately after officiating. We will also provide some other multimedia techniques to help us improve your officiating. There will be many high level games – more than at any our camp before.

There will be physical trainer and also basketball coach to help referees, not only to learn how to practice, but also to understand basketball from other perspective.

We expect referees from many countries, so main language at the clinic will be English.

More details about the camp will be published at www.referee.pl day by day from now, until the end of the camp or even longer.

Soon you will find information about the hotel, gym and other events. You can easily reach Antalya by plane (the airport is very well connected with regular and charter flights). There will be transfer scheduled from and to the airport. As well as all logistics inside the camp will be covered. All hotel facilities are available for our campers during the whole camp (swimming poole indoor, outdoor, gym, the outside beach☺).

On the website we will also publish the list of campers in order they send applications. Now you are able to find there information, pictures and other details about camps from past 11 editions.

Sunday, last day of the camp… Still plenty of things to do. Very important thing is we made the family picture. Soon those pictures will create nice story as we just finalizing the 11th edition of the REFEREE.PL.

But before the final whistle, again early morning wake up – cannot be different. First we were analyzing clips with situations from yesterday games, so everyone had the possibility to share their doubts and get a direct answer from our instructors. So George, Dani, Buluc, Peter, Kuba, Pasta, Zapol were there to give their professional opinion and advices. There was a special clip at the end of this lecture done by Paulo Mina with help of Edith Oudshoorn, and now the instructors and specially Kuba are nominated to do the ILS IceBucketChallenge. Hehehe. So once the role changed and Kuba has received the nomination during his camp. Let’s wait for the results.

We could again listen to George, whose passion these days were spreading all over the room. He is so charismatic. He immediately caught the contact with the referees and his jokes are making us laugh. Also the stories, especially about the love bridge J

Daniel got the presentation as well in the final day. He is very direct while talking, he is sending us the message and we listen. Like the story about his carrier. His style and inside power is coming out with every word he tells. This is incredible.

As today is the final day there are… final games! So people got the nominations and some of them were extremely happy and excited for the game at 18.00 which was played by the top Polish league teams and one is the current Polish champion.  But all the games were good, because the teams were not giving an easy job to our campers, I would say just the opposite.

In the afternoon there was also a block of workshop with clips from Darek and Piotr. So this was an opportunity to again discuss what happened on the court.

Of course as every last day there were many pictures taken, waving goodbye, packing, and thinking. The camp syndrome spread and despite the 4 intense days people were feeling like this is not enough. Which is exactly what you guys should feel, because now you come back home and have all the power to start the season in your leagues.

But I am sure to see most of you next year.

Wow, time is flying, today is already third day of the camp. Only two days behind us and people are already tired, as the schedule is pretty tight. If you do not officiate there are classes in the room, so no time to be bored.
Today some campers went to run again, some went to the swimming pool and sauna, anyhow to start the day with some exercise.
 
 
Dani handled the first lecture. It was cooperation with the coaches, quite difficult topic, so we were listening for the feedback and his Euroleague experience talking. The coaches know how to pressure referee and we as referee must manage it. Then we studied one by one examples of how not to talk to the coach. And the conclusion was the referee owns his silence and is the slave of his words. We need to first show respect to gain respect. And we all act differently in the court and this is ok, but we must role/act in the same way to control the game.
 
 
Then Kuba and Goerge was discussing clips, as everyday, many interesting situations and of course different opinions. Peter was showing us changes in modern basketball. The behavior of the players, what coaches teach them, how the play has evolved, what we can expect, this was a very good lesson.
Also Peter was doing the outside workshop, which is every year very interesting and successful, so he gather the group for the exercise.
 
 
And of course we had the games, which were again extraordinary and difficult to officiate, so some of the campers had really good practice. Every team after the half was receiving immediate feedback from the instructor, apart from the case that they can speak by the communication device from the Blucom company. In the same time George had his workshop and the famous M&M’s stories. (for those who were there)
 
Tomorrow is the last day of camp, but it is still brining us the great portion of work, so keep up.
